Fashion photography is a great skill to have because its a growing need for companies. While I was at the Legacy Flight Museum I was able to snatch a couple of shots featuring fashion accessories.

Tasha-Larsen-Fashion-Accessories

One of the key things to remember when taking pictures of fashion accessories is to crop in close. You want your main focus to be the accessory that you are trying to showcase. Having too much going on in the picture will distract from subject.

Tasha-Larsen-Fashion-Accessories

Often times we think of accessories as only being earrings and necklaces, but accessories can be buttons or patches on a shirt. Using a 50 mm lens or a macro lens are great for getting close up fashion accessory shots. Besides these fashion accessory shots I have been doing fashion shoots for Mila Couture a locally open clothing store in Idaho Falls.

American Military Fashion

A couple of weeks ago I had the opportunity to go to the Legacy Flight Museum to do a 1940s fashion shoot. I was able to get these great American Military Fashion shots along with many other great pictures of the planes and old vehicles.

Part of making this shoot as realistic and accurate as we could we were able to have our models dress in authentic American Military fashion. The above shot I even took portion of an old world war II poster and added it to my image.

This picture above was taken outside and it was a little tricky because the sky was blown out and I didn’t have a light to brighten up his face. I had to shoot at normal settings so his face would be bright, which made my sky blown out. So I went and found a sunset stock image and I masked the two images together to make the sky look more interesting.

This last picture is actually two different pictures put together. I liked the idea of having a flag as the background and then having one of my American Military Fashion models placed in front of the flag. I was super excited with how realistic and natural the picture turned out looking.

Vintage Military Fashion

The Legacy Flight Museum in Rexburg, Idaho is awesome they allowed about 20 photographers to come in and take pictures of models wearing authentic clothing from the 1940s. Besides being able to get models in authentic military fashion we were able to pose our models on and around the planes and vehicles they had at the museum. This vintage military fashion shoot was a unique type of photography because a lot of the pictures can tell a story just by the clothing.

Tasha-Larsen-Vintage-Military-Fashion

I used portion of a war poster to add to this picture below. It shows that even though the men were gone there were women back home waiting for them and working while they were gone. In order to get the lighting and shadows in most of these pictures I used a light orb or speed light. When using a speed light I had to make sure to keep my shutter speed at 1/200.

Tasha-Larsen-Vintage-Military-Fashion

Vintage military fashion is really fun to shoot. The clothing and accessories really added a unique touch to all the pictures. Women’s fashion in the 40s was all about elegance. You wanted to look like a lady, they were dresses, gloves, and pearls.

Knowing how to shoot fashion is very beneficial because clothing stories and companies need to display their product in a way that people will want to buy it. Even though this was a fashion shoot from the 40s it still has taught me a lot about looking for accessories and styles to specifically shoot.

Military Couples

Being the spouse of someone in the Military can be very difficult. Military couples spend so much time a part especially when there are active wars going on. Military men and women have families too and we should remember them as well as those serving.

Tasha-Larsen-Military-Couples

I had the opportunity to go to the Legacy Flight Museum and take pictures of models dressed up in authentic clothing from the 1940s.I wanted my military couples pictures to tell a story. When someone looks at them I wanted them to think how hard it would’ve been and is for those men and women to leave the love of their life to go protect our freedom.

Tasha-Larsen-Military-Couples

These first three images were taken outside using mostly natural light and a couple I used a light orb just to make sure their face wasn’t dark. Even though it isn’t the 1940s anymore and military couples may not dress this way anymore, there are still many men and women who leave their families to make us Free. Thank those who have served for our freedom.

Legacy Flight Museum

If you live in Rexburg and you haven’t ever been to the Legacy Flight Museum you should take the opportunity to make it over there. They have some well known planes from World War II as well as authentic clothing that would’ve been worn back in the day.

Tasha-Larsen-Legacy-Flight-Museum

These four images are of a couple of planes and a jeep that are on display at the Legacy Flight Museum. Museums all over the world contact the Legacy Flight Museum and try to convince them to donate or sell them their planes. One reason they won’t ever do that is because once they are sold to a bigger museum they will never fly again. At the Legacy Flight Museum they keep up on regular maintenance of these beautiful planes and take them up in the air often.

Three of these images were taken outside using natural light. Typically their plans are all inside to prevent wear and tare from the weather. To find out more information about the Legacy Flight Museum check out their Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/Legacy-Flight-Museum-117072895037386/.

Framed Fine Art Photography

(Edited)

My husband, Austin and I started collecting old cameras shortly after we got engaged. This particular camera is my husbands grandpas camera that he got while he was on his mission in Denmark. I took this picture using the (SQIBB) studio quality invisible black background technic. This is where you use a flash and flash bender to create a snoot that creates the nice black background. I made minor edits to the original picture by increasing brightness and contrast.

As a photographer it is fun to see your fine art work printed and hanging in a frame. As a communications student at Brigham Young University Idaho I’ve had a couple of opportunities to display my work in the Spori Building on campus for the public to see. This coming Tuesday November 10 this fine art picture will be on display as a 16×24. I hope you will get the chance to check it out.

Photo Mosaic

Teton Mosaic Photo

Tasha-Larsen-Mosaic-Photo-Tetons-1

Mosaic photos are the idea of taking a picture and then using small tile pictures to recreate the image. This mosaic photo was taken of the Tetons and was recreated using most of my pictures I have taken this semester for my comm316 class.

To create this mosaic photo of the Tetons I used free software called AndreaMosaic. You first pick the picture you want to use then you make a list of all the pictures you want to use for tiles. The program automatically places the pictures in tiles where the color works.

For more interesting mosaic pictures check out Nick Ulivieri.

The pictures below are just a couple of the pictures that were used as the tiles in the mosaic photo of the Tetons.

Creative Photo Montage

Legacy Flight Museum

Tasha-Larsen-Legacy-Flight-Museum-Montage

Storytelling montages have become a popular form of photo design for photographers. This is when you take several different images and you put them together to tell a story. This photo montage is of several images taken at the Legacy Flight Museum in Rexburg, Idaho. We were able to have models dress up in authentic clothing from the specific eras the planes were from.

I used Photoshop to put the pictures together using masks. The background picture of the airplane was taken using natural light, the two other pictures I used light orbs to lighten up the subject.

Caricature Bobble head Portrait

Bobble Head CaricatureTasha-Larsen-Bobble-head-caricature

It is amazing what you can do in Photoshop from making a little animation to editing images to be what you want them to be. Creating a bobble head of my niece using the idea of caricature was a little challenging. When ever you try new ideas in photoshop it always takes a lot of research, and trials and error. To see another caricatures check out Lindsey Lefevre . I also used Caryn Esplins instructions and tutorials of how to create a bobble head.

Tasha-larsen-bobble-head-animation-starter

For my camera settings I used a speed light outside with my f stop at 2.8. I upped the saturation in the image so she would look a little fake. I then used the liquify tool in photoshop to pull out her cheeks, eyes and mouth a little bit. Bobble head caricatures are a new skill I’m sure I will have fun with in the future.

Everyday Fine Art Photo Op Stops

Tasha-Larsen-Fine-Art-Photo-Op-Stop

You don’t have to be traveling anyone special to get a fine art photo op stop. When I’m just out and about on a normal day when I see something interesting I have been working on stopping.

Tasha-Larsen-Fine-Art-Photo-Op-Stop-3

Even when your in the middle of no where there are still fine art photo op stops that can be made. My husband found this old barn building thats made out of two by fours and thought it would make a cool shot for me so we pulled over and stopped. The simplest things can make the coolest fine art photo op stops.

Tasha-Larsen-Fine-Art-Photo-Op-Stop-4

This picture was taken between Rexburg and Rigby I had pulled off onto a side road as the sun was going down. I saw this old sugar mill building by the railroad tracks and this small water pond in front of it and loved what I saw. I decided I wanted to make this a silhouette picture so I didn’t light up the foreground and let the sunset show in the background.

Tasha-Larsen-Fine-Art-Photo-Op-Stop

This fine art photo op stop is a usual for me because it’s on my way to work. I have the amazing opportunity to drive over the Snack River at least four times a week. I get to see how beautiful the river is especially as the seasons change.
